Engineered hardwood gives you a real wood surface on a stable core, which matters on Houston slabs where solid wood moves too much. Done right, it looks like a solid floor and behaves a lot better.

Layout and acclimation
Two things separate a good wood floor from an average one: letting the material acclimate to the house before it goes down, and planning the layout so the run is square to the main sightline and you're not finishing on a two-inch sliver at the wall. We dry-lay and rack the boards before anything gets glued.
Questions about engineered wood
Engineered or solid hardwood?
On a concrete slab, engineered. It's dimensionally stable and can be glued directly down. Solid wood on a slab needs a subfloor system and still moves with humidity.
Can you do herringbone?
Yes. Herringbone and chevron take longer and cost more in labor, but they're some of the best-looking floors we install.
Can engineered wood be refinished?
Depends on the wear layer. Thicker wear layers can take a light sand and refinish once or twice. We'll tell you what you're buying before you buy it.
