Where laminate fits
Laminate is a good call for bedrooms, living areas and offices. We'd steer you away from it in bathrooms and laundry rooms, where standing water gets into the seams and swells the core. If you want a wood look in a wet room, LVT is the better buy.
Questions about laminate flooring
Does laminate need underlayment?
Yes. It floats over the subfloor, so it needs underlayment for sound, cushion and moisture protection. It's included in the estimate.
Can laminate go over concrete?
Yes, with a moisture barrier, and the slab has to be flat. Low spots make the seams flex and click apart over time, so we level first if needed.
Is laminate cheaper than LVT?
Usually a little, and it installs fast. But in wet areas the savings disappear the first time it swells, so it depends on the room.
